Looks like the score was due to the test dummy missing the front airbag and sliding between the side curtain bag and the seatbelt sliding up on the test dummy in the rear. Looks like the chassis held up good.

When are the results going to be shared?

This car saved my life 2 days ago. Highly recommend

Test came out a few months ago, CX-5 didn't fair well in this specific update, Mazda didn't like it, Mazda did improvements on the last year of the current generation... Thanks Mazda, glad to have one of these myself.

Brilliant effort from Mazda to fit rear seatbelt pretensioners. It shows the company is keen on improving its product.

When the initial crash results came out a few months ago, I remember multiple of the comments being about how the test was unfair, how submarining was impossible to avoid. I recall how strange I found those comments to be, since all of the "impossible" things IIHS was looking at had seemingly already been addressed successfully for the *front* seat passengers. The fact that manufacturers were able to apply those same or equivalent solutions to *rear* seat passengers in a matter of months without having to fundamentally overhaul or redesign a vehicle that was originally designed about 7 or 8 years ago now reflects how important independent crash testing is, how modest improvements can save lives, and how nonsensical so many of those knee-jerk reactions were to attack the updated test.

Guessing they changed the car for the 2024 model year so it performs better in this test? The CX5 did really well in the new side test, but then got a poor in the updated moderate overlap, but still glad to see Mazda making changes quickly to keep up with newer tests. Some manufacturers would probably wait till a whole redesign.

Redesigned but still marginal, time to go back to the drawing board.

Hey Subaru, you still failed

So many people get triggered when Hyundai/Kia gets Maringal or even Acceptable, but so quiet when Subaru/Toyota/Honda get Marginal or Poor.

Not a lot of improvement over the old Crosstrek.

I’m sorry it almost looks like the seatbelt on the rear dummy was not properly adjusted on the lap portion. I’d love to see what the Euro NCAP rates this car.
